“Trees that are slow to grow bear the best fruit.”
Farm & Forest Kindergarten
Day by day, children experience the richness of slow living in a rich environment that foster the child's imagination and creativity, practical work, love, compassion and reverence for nature while nourishing the senses and the goodness and richness of life.
Rosewood Nature School sustainable living practices add a rich dimension to our program and are central to our model. Children connect to the land with an innate sense of wonder and appreciation, reverence, dedication, wonder and gratitude for the earth and all its inhabitants adding balance to the goodness that is created here.
Days are structured around a seasonal rhythm, incorporating the four elements (earth, air, fire and water) and the developmental needs of the children. Activities include animal care, nature crafts, story, circle, running, tree-climbing, hiking, engaging in imaginative play, observation and nature exploration. Practical tasks such as food preparation, handwork projects, gardening, and building shelters develop movement, balance, touch, and sense of life. Cooperative games help children learn how to follow directions and respect boundaries. Rhymes, stories, clapping, and counting games enhance the child’s capacity to listen while encouraging a love of language, reading and math pre-skills. Finger plays and handwork develop motor skills and improve coordination–skills for later writing.
It is through this active child-led play and exploration and positive interaction with their teachers, peers, a rich environment, and a caring community that children develop a solid foundation for future academic pursuits, gain invaluable skills for life, a lifelong love for learning and an internalized set of values that will guide them for life.
Rosewood holistic relationship-based education, foster rich opportunities for children to flourish as a whole rounded individuals.
Farm to table hot meals every day made from scratch with the help of our children!
Because they love to eat what they cook, al our meals are made with local, organic, non-GMO ingredients free of chemicals, dyes, antibiotics, pesticides and hormones.
Our main source of fresh ingredients is our own school community garden. What we cannot grow and harvest ourselves, we source it from local CSAs and local farms.
