Key Aspects of Our Programs

“If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered,
let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it"
— David Sobel

Domestic Arts & Farm-to-table

Farm to table hot meals every day made from scratch with the help of our children!
Because children love to eat what they grow and cook, all our meals are made with local, organic, non-GMO ingredients free of chemicals, dyes, antibiotics, pesticides and hormones.
Our main source of fresh ingredients is our own school community garden. What we cannot grow and harvest ourselves, we source from local CSAs and local farms.

Place-Based for Environmental Stewardship

Learning and exploring in a permanent location encourages personal connection with nature, promotes a sense of belonging and comfort, builds an awareness of seasonal changes and patterns, and ultimately begins the flow of environmental activism.
The Rosewood playground and farmyard and its sustainable living practices add a rich dimension to our program.

Community Engagement

Like-minded families who value nature, fellowship and service.
Community meetings, festivals and events. Enjoy guest speakers and parenting workshops.

Community service and community outreach events to reach out our greater community.

Life Skills

Children experience the richness of slow living while engaged in real-life activities such as food preparation,  farming, handwork projects, gardening, farming that help them to be grounded in the world they live in while building important skills for life. Children develop critical physical, cognitive and emotional skills gaining a sense of ownership, stewardship, kindness and compassion for others.

At Rosewood, children add balance to the goodness that is created here for them to connect, to explore and enjoy!

Social & Creative Arts

Rhymes, stories, clapping, and counting games with nature finds enhance the child’s capacity to listen while encouraging a love of language, literacy and math foundational skills.

Finger plays and handwork develop motor skills and improve coordination–skills for later writing.

We use natural material as wool, beeswax, wood, cotton and more for playing and making crafts to nourish the senses.

Nature Immersion &
Exposure to moderate risk

Allowing children to spend extended periods of unstructured free time in nature has numerous benefits as it promotes environmental stewardship and an intimate, deep and personal connection to the natural world while building essential mental, physical, social and emotional critical skills and engaging in imaginative play. Children develop leaderships skills, confidence in nature and positive sense of self.

We believe that exposing children to moderate risk and allowing them to develop an awareness of their surroundings is healthy for their development. Engaging in activities like climbing, balancing and running on uneven ground allow children to strengthen their senses and develop self-confidence through facing challenges successfully.
